BEING MINDFUL is very calming for our being and a wonderfully simple self care tool.
Is your MIND FULL or are you being MINDFUL? (like the little dog below).
Whoever created this image was a genius. It illustrates perfectly being IN THE NOW, EXPERIENCING THIS VERY MOMENT and animals are great at this.
Mindfulness is a bit of a buzz word these days. It is a great technique and in a nutshell it means experiencing this very moment using your senses.
When being mindful, we are not ‘time travelling’ forwards or backwards filling our heads with all kinds of worries, anxieties or lists of all the stuff we have to do. Mindfulness gives our head some time off all that thinking and allows us to get into our bodies and use the senses for a short while.
Simply experience This Very Moment by observing several things that you can SEE (in as much detail as you can – colours, shapes), then notice what you can HEAR (close noises, far away noises), then what you can FEEL (sensations, textures), and also are there any SMELLS or TASTES you are aware of.
Some people do a quick Mindful 333 – 3 things I can SEE, HEAR and FEEL. Or a 5,4,3,2,1 See, Hear, Feel, Smell, Taste.
We can do any activity mindfully, becoming immersed in it rather than distracted. For example, eating mindfully is a great way to really enjoy a meal eating it slowly and tasting every mouthful like a gourmet. Walking mindfully we notice notice so much more about the nature around us on our walk.
