It is quite common to feel tension and discomfort at the base of skull, top of neck area.

Working within your level of comfort and using side to side sawing type movements, use the side of thumbs to ease this tension. Allow the fingers to rest on the head, which is quite soothing in itself.

The muscles of the neck all connect into this area at the base of the skull called the occipital ridge and then can adversely affect the occipitalis muscle which is just above this area and then in turn make the scalp tight and cause headaches. The scalp is a large flat tendon and those with tight scalps often get headaches.
Massage of the head area is contraindicated for anyone with epilepsy. Please seek medical attention if you are concerned about headache symptoms.
