It is surprising how tense we can become in every day life in the neck, shoulders and upper arm areas. Here is a quick and easy technique to provide some relief.
This squeezing and rolling movement, using all fingers together, is great for around the neck, the tops of the shoulders and the upper arm. Cup the hand around the area and use the whole of your fingers to squeeze and roll the muscle a few times.
Please take care if you have hand mobility issues and stop if it becomes painful.
Benefits include easing tension, increasing blood flow to the brain for clearer thinking and a feeling of relaxation and calm. Your level of relaxation and tension release is always enhanced if you use some gentle belly breathing too – see the earlier post on this.
So, working the opposite side of the neck with the right fingers and vice versa. With the tops of shoulders and upper arms reaching the right hand across the front of the body to the left and vice versa.
Find the muscular areas, notice how sometimes one side needs more attention than the other and you may find it helpful to work in several places in each area.
If you find a particularly tight area you might use fingertips to work a little deeper with some circular movements there taking care not to fatigue your hands.
