Exploring places that make us feel good.
I recently attended two events within a week held within yurts. One a massive structure which accommodated almost 30 people and one was more cosy and there were about ten of us in there. These round tent covered dwellings were traditionally found in the steppes and mountains of Inner Asia. The structure is latticework of wood for the walls, a door frame, rafters and some have supporting columns for the crown, which is at the centre of the roof.
Here’s a short calming yurt visualisation. Remember, we can be anywhere we like in our mind, so it might as well be a lovely pleasant place.
Sitting comfortably or laying down if you prefer, begin to imagine you are inside a yurt. You may choose to close your eyes or keep them open whilst relaxing. Observe your gentle breathing. The steady in and then out breath, not attempting to change it, simply allowing it to flow. Begin using all of your senses to experience being in the yurt. Take in the magnificence of it, visually exploring it. Observing the size of the space and it’s construction. All the wooden parts that make it so beautiful. Perhaps there is a part in the roof that lets in more light or a doorway. Maybe the floor tiled or carpeted or perhaps it is earth.
Feel how connected you are to the earth in this space. How settling and calming that feels. Maybe you can feel the heaviness of your feet or body on the earth as if you have grown roots into the earth.
You find yourself enjoying the gentle circular nature of the yurt. It feels like energy can flow unhindered around it beautifully.
Take your attention to the sounds around you. In this space you can feel immersed in nature, in a lovely area where the birds sing and other nature sounds are apparent. You can be aware of sounds in the distance and sounds closer to you and notice how many of these are the sounds of nature.
Perhaps you are aware of smells and tastes in this space too.
I wonder if you can feel the air around you and maybe you can feel the warmth of the sun through the material. Observe any emotions you are feeling in this calm peaceful space. Allowing anything unwanted to be released into the earth. Filling up on the pleasant feelings, thoughts, sensations and emotions.
There is something about this circular space that is quite magical. Immersed in nature, no walls to block out the outside world, feeling calm and grounded and settled.
And when you’re ready, give your fingers and toes a wiggle and become fully present back in your own room knowing you can revisit your magical yurt whenever you want 🙂
